about Jack Bundy

Jackson Corbett Bundy, Jr., 69, of Spartanburg, died Friday, September 9, 2011, at his home.

After graduating from Newberry College in 1964, he married Myrna Pitts and began his career with the Chamber of Commerce. In Durham, NC, he served as Civic Affairs Manager of the Chamber of Commerce, and later was named the first full-time director of the Greater Durham Downtown Revitalization Program. In 1978 he and his family moved to Spartanburg, SC, where Jack joined the staff at the Chamber of Commerce. There he was instrumental in forming the Leadership Spartanburg program. In 1988 Jack served as executive vice president of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, focusing on total quality management and leadership development. A strong supporter of lifelong learning, Jack completed the W. Edwards Deming Institute program and supported Deming's philosophy of total quality. His last years of his career brought him back to Spartanburg working with Healthy Spartanburg and the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind.

Expressing his creative spirit, Jack enjoyed woodworking and pottery, as well as spending time in his pottery studio teaching his granddaughter how to make pinch pots and snowmen. He shared his interests with Carolina Clay Artists, a group he helped form. He was a strong supporter of the Spartanburg Art Museum and taught beginning pottery classes in addition to taking classes at other art institutes. Jack also inspired his sons with his love of music and art, his curiosity, and his enthusiasm for learning while bringing joy to family and friends with his infectious sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jackson C. Bundy Spartanburg Art Museum Scholarship Endowment, Spartanburg County Foundation, Contribution Lock Box, P.O. Box 60402, Charlotte, NC 28260-0402.
