William Cooke Huff
Integrating Antiques with Interior Design

[ purchase a ticket online ]

Bill Huff was born in Columbus, Georgia and continues to live there with his wife Maudie. He graduated from the Sewanee Military Academy and later the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He was promoted to Captain and spent thirteen and a half months in Vietnam.

After leaving the military he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, studying investment banking and stayed in that field for a year. In 1969 he was asked to join the established interior designer, Jack Collins of Columbus and later formed Collins and Huff. Bill and Jack were business partners for the next forty-two years.

In 1990 Bill formed William Huff Interiors and began buying antiques in England. Using a combination of upholstered pieces and antique furniture he developed a comfortable, yet enduring traditional style. Bill’s passion is working with the architect at the beginning of a job, whether it is a residence, an office, or an historic building.

Over the years, he has had many clients throughout the Southeast, and as faraway as Texas and New Jersey Bill has been very involved in the community and served on many boards. Bill and Maudie love to travel and enjoy museums, architecture and gardens. Sailing and quail hunting are also two of his favorite pastimes.

Bill has three children and four grand-children. His daughter Maggie Dimino and her husband Steve live in Marietta, Will Huff and his wife Claire Marie live in Atlanta, where Will is an established Interior Designer and Martin Huff, who is a Senior at Wofford College.

Michael McCue
The Tryon Colony and its
Cultural History with the Upstate

[ purchase a ticket online ]

A resident of North Carolina since 1983, McCue is known for his historical research, publications, and public lectures about the nationally significant Tryon colony of artists and writers in the Western North Carolina mountains.

In 2000 he authored the exhibition catalog for a survey of the oeuvre of Tryon modernist Homer Ellertson at Tryon Fine Arts Center, the first monograph on that artist. In 2001 McCue was guest curator at Asheville Art Museum for Lawrence Mazzanovich: Impressionist Paintings of Tryon which brought 16 landscapes from private collections, galleries, and museums for the first retrospective at that institution of a Tryon painter. His publication for that exhibition (available from Asheville Art Museum) is the only monograph about Lawrence Mazzanovich (1871-1959) as well.

His books include Paris & Tryon: George C. Aid (1872-1938) and his Artistic Circles in France and North Carolina; The Tryon Toy Makers and Wood Carvers 1915 - 1940; Tryon Artists: 1892-1942; and a volume on the architecture and landscape of Tryon.

McCue has served on many nonprofit boards in Polk and Buncombe counties, on grants panels in Washington for the National Endowment for the Arts and has chaired the jury for the Newman Book Award in the field of American historical prints.

He has written eight historical articles about significant Tryon artists for the forthcoming New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture to be published by University of North Carolina Press.
