COLORS is a program which addresses the need for positive creative
outlets for inner-city youth. COLORS' mission is to develop
young talent by providing the opportunity for them to experience
the power of their own creativity.
These
students are able to come to an after school environment
where paper, paint, pastels, charcoal and clay are provided for
their creative development. Participants are supervised and encouraged
by professional art instructors.
During
the school year, the COLORS and COLORS II programs follow the public
school schedule for holidays and closings. Both operate during the
summer months.
COLORS at the Arts Center
200 E. St. John Street Monday - Thursday 3:00pm - 6:00pm
COLORS
II is currently looking for another venue. Please check back for
updates.

Painting
murals builds self-esteem for the COLORS students by allowing
them to share their talent with the community. The COLORS program
has painted several murals for the Spartanburg community:
- Art:
My Anti-Drug (for The Health and Human Services Anti-Drug
Campaign) at the Bargain Center Used Car Lot on W.O.
Ezell Blvd.
- on
K.C.'s Convenience Store next to Mary H. Wright Elementary
School on Caulder Avenue,
- formerly
on the old site of Celena's clothing store at the corner of
Church Street and Main Street in downtown Spartanburg,
- on
the Spartanburg City Fire Department's mobile fire house
(This miniature house is taken to places all over the community
to teach children about fire safety),

- on
an inside wall of the former Java Jive Coffee House in
downtown Spartanburg, and
- inside
the lobby of the Main Office of Bank of America in downtown
Spartanburg.
