Eugene Healan Thomason (1895-1972)

Thomason was born in Blacksburg, SC and raised in several southern communities including Charlotte, NC. He studied at The Art Students League and the Grand Central School. He became close friends with George Luks and for twelve years they shared a studio. He returned to North Carolina in the 1930's, married a musician and built a studio near Nebo, NC. Thomason became known as "The Ashcan Artist of Appalachia".
