Born in Hartsville, SC, Fort attended both The Art Students
League in New York and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota,
Florida. The great-granddaughter of Hudson River School
painter Edward Gay, she lived and painted in Gaffney.

(1921-1994)
A
founder of both the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg
and the Spartanburg Historical Association, Coleman’s
use of color was extolled by his former teacher and mentor,
Irma Cook.A multi-talented individual, Coleman was also
a student of archeology and architecture, a musician and
a photographer.
