The
Spartanburg County Museum of Art is a regional museum promoting
the visual arts by:

supporting
educational programming

sponsoring
diverse exhibitions

acquiring,
displaying and conserving a permanent collection
- providing
appropriate places for achieving its mission

Admission to exhibits is free to individuals through
June 30, 2009.
Group
tours of 10 or more are by reservation only. Group rates which
include an educational tour and activity are $2 per child
(18 and younger) and $4 per adult. Call 582-7616 for more
information.
Opening
Receptions are free to SAM members (please see our
membership form for more information). Guests are welcome
at $5 per person.

The
Museum offers an annual Art Lecture Series featuring
experts speaking on a variety of art-related subjects. Topics
include fine arts, art history, decorative arts, and folk
art. |

COLORS
is an innovative open art studio for Spartanburg's inner-city
youth. This program provides the opportunity for participants
to develop artistic talent through painting, drawing and ceramics.

The
Museum features visual art exhibitions from international,
national and regional artists.
Visiting
artists often present gallery talks and/or lectures.

The
Art School is a program for studio and on-location art instruction
that offers a wide range of classes and workshops for
people of all ages and abilities throughout the year.The
Art School also offers Birthday parties for children. Call

The
Girl With Red Hair, an oil on canvas by Robert Henri,
was acquired by The Arts & Crafts Club in 1907 as the
first piece of a permanent collection for the community of
Spartanburg. From that beginning, the museums collection
has grown to over 400 pieces of art and sculpture.
Many
fine artists from the Upstate region of South Carolina are
featured in the collection, including August Cook, Margaret
Law, Josephine Sibley Couper, and Grace DuPre.
The collection also features paintings, sculpture, and ceramics
by contemporary artists from this region.

An
extension of the Art School, this program is offered each
summer for children ages 6 though 12. Each session
is made up of different classes, each exploring some theme
or subject in art.
Art

Your
membership will help to support art school classes,
workshops & camps for children & adults, exhibitions
by local, regional and national artists, an art lecture
series, docent tours for students & adults,
outreach art programs for at-risk youth, a growing
permanent collection of artwork for the community.
As
a non-profit organization, the museum relies not only on financial
contributions from the private sector, but also upon its volunteerism.
