Art Education Internships

The Spartanburg Art Museum is seeking an Art Education Intern to assist with afternoon summer art camps during the months of June through mid-August. This is a non-paid internship requiring approximately 20 hours per week, during the following weeks: June 8th-12th, June 15th-19th, July 6th-10th, July 13th-17th, July 27th-31st, and August 3rd-7th.

Qualifications and General Duties

  • Some teaching, including student teaching, experience working with diverse socio-economic youth ages 5-13.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Art making skills and desire to learn new techniques to create demonstration pieces to use for students in Art School programs.
  • Patient and positive attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize the varying needs of up to a dozen campers in a studio setting.

 

SAM is also looking for an Art Education Intern to assist with fall Art School classes and other education related programming during the months of September through early December. This position requires approximately 15 hours per week. 

Qualifications and General Duties

  • Some teaching, including student teaching, experience working with diverse socio-economic youth ages 5-13.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Art making skills and desire to learn new techniques to create demonstration pieces to use for students in Art School programs.
  • Computer skills:  Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Patient and positive attitude.
  • Assist in researching topics related to current exhibitions.
  • Assist in creating gallery guides for current exhibitions.
  • Help provide assistance with school groups, tours and hands-on activities in our studio.
