description

Drawing is a foundational skill that is useful in all areas of the visual arts. Learn the basics of representational drawing including measuring and proportion, shading, perspective, and composition. Concepts are taught through instructor demonstration, student exercises, and individual guidance. The class culminates in the completion of a still-life drawing on the last day. Students have the option to purchase the supplies for this class through SAM. To order a SAM Supply Kit, please email Charlotte Hutson at chutson@spartanarts.org. Students may also purchase the following supplies on their own: • 1 clip style drawing board or other smooth hard board for holding paper. Must be big enough to hold 11” x 14” sheets of paper. Larger is fine. • 2 sheets of toned (tan or gray) drawing paper 11” x 14”. Examples: Strathmore 400 series, or Canson Mitientes or similar. These come in individual sheets that can be cut down to size. • Masking tape or blue tape or artist’s tape • 1 11” x 14” white drawing pad • 3 or 4 graphite pencils (recommended – HB, 4B and a 6B or 8B) • 1 kneaded eraser • 1 rubber, vinyl, or plastic eraser • Handheld sharpener, or small battery-operated sharpener • Pencil case or other storage container for your drawing tools • Conte crayon in white and black or charcoal pencils in white and black
