Achieve beautiful color, incredible detail, and smooth transitions using colored pencils. Learn how to work with this medium effectively and capitalize on its strengths from an instructor who has been using from the medium for over 30 years. Kathleen provides a step-by-step demonstration followed up with individualized guidance. Students work from their own photograph. Students have the option to purchase the supplies for this class through SAM. If you would like to order a SAM Supply Kit, please email Charlotte Hutson at chutson@spartanarts.org. Students may also purchase the following supplies on their own. Instructor will give a demonstration on the first day. Therefore, student supplies will not be necessary to bring to class until the 2nd class. By purchasing individual pencils, one creates a personalized palette without purchasing colors that you may never use. Please purchase Berol Premier Prismacolor Pencils. Do not purchase Prismacolor Verithin. Sources for supplies include the following: Suburban Paint at 1378 N Pleasantburg Dr, Greenville, Hobby Lobby stores, DickBlick.com and CheapJoes.com. • Kneaded eraser • White or clear rubber eraser – please no pink pearl erasers • 1 graphite pencil – 2B or similar • Transfer paper - white or graphite. Saral is a brand that creates transfer paper in rolls • Battery-operated pencil sharpener • 1 clip style drawing board or other smooth hard board for holding paper. Must be big enough to hold 11” x 14” sheets of paper. Larger is fine. • 2 11” x 14” toned (medium gray or tan) sheets of paper. Can be any of the following: o Canson Mitientes – comes in pads or individual sheets. Individual sheets should be cut down before class. o Sanded pastel paper – there are several makers of sanded pastel paper. Here are just a few – Art spectrum colorfix, Global Arts Premier, and Sennelier • Berol Prismacolor Pencils - Colors: Must have’s: White Burnt Umber Yellow Ocre Tuscan Red Crimson Lake Blue Indigo Ultramarine Blue Canary Yellow Black Grape Sienna Brown Cream Should have’s: Cloud Blue Mediterranean Blue Lime Peel Olive Green Apple Green Artichoke Purple Orange Mineral Orange Clay Rose Black Cherry Slate Gray Jade Green French Gray – 20% If you have other colors you like, please bring them. If you wish to buy a set, purchase a set of 48 or more. The largest set is 150 which contains all the colors.

cancellation policy

If we do not meet minimum registration, class will be cancelled and students will be given a full refund. If registration occurred through our website, refunds will be issued through PayPal/Square minus a small PayPal/Square administration fee. Otherwise, a check will be mailed to you in approximately two weeks. ​If a student has to withdraw from a class five or more working days before the class is scheduled to begin, a refund will be issued minus a SAM $20 administrative fee. If a student withdraws from a class five working days or less before a class is scheduled to begin, the class fee will not be refunded.
