dark corners

2.12 - 4.19.2015

British-born painter Julyan Davis has been living and painting in the Southeast for the past twenty years. Dark Corners: The Appalachian Murder Ballads is a collection of oil paintings that offer viewers glimpses into haunting narratives that depict the region’s history as well as present day culture. “When I painted the Southern Highlands there was always in my mind this music, full of myth and romance that had long ago been the vanguard from my own country. The characters in this collection of paintings are the ghosts conjured from such landscape.”
